Welcome to our new blog series, Get to Know Green House Data! Every couple of weeks, we'll bring you a quick interview with one of the technician, support crew, engineer, data center operations, or even sales and marketing crew members that power your IT infrastructure at Green House Data.
This week, meet Leif Dvorak, our Security & Compliance Administrator. Leif has previously written on the blog about how to maintain HIPAA compliance.
I primarily work out of the Cheyenne, WY locations. While not originally from Cheyenne, I moved here from Riverton, WY and lived elsewhere in Wyoming prior to that.
Not a lot in Cheyenne, as there is way too much stuff that is Cowboy themed and that’s not really my thing. As a result I tend to travel to Colorado for concerts, shows, conventions, or other excitement.
I began working in IT in 2000 while I was still in high school, at Wyoming.com. I have been working on IT ever since in one form or another. I have done pretty much a little of everything: cabling, web design, customer support, geographical information services (which is a fancy way to say GPS data mapping), infrastructure design and implementation...even a little programing (although I am terrible at it).
Presently I have made a career shift from dealing with normal IT issues to working with how we interact with IT environments via our Security and Compliance Program.
IT interest came from attending school with great teachers and being fascinated by blinking lights and why they blink. On top of that there are limited industry sectors in most parts of Wyoming. I didn’t want to farm or work in the oil fields, so IT was the choice for me.
I enjoy almost every aspect of my job with the exception of updating policy documents. Policy updates are important but a slightly mind numbing process to perform. Working on our Security and Compliance program is always interesting and even sometimes fun.
Gaming (everything from PC and console video games to tabletop and card games of varying flavors, plus things that don’t fall into the other categories) and various art projects in lots of different media formats.
Coffee because I’m not British. Although Tea is the 2nd most consumed beverage on the planet behind water it’s no reason to jump on the band wagon. Tea might be slightly better for you but it’s just hard to get excited about lettuce in water. Also have you seen the awesome coffee makers out there? Millenniums of making tea has only resulted in an electric teapot, and some minor rebellions we won’t talk about.
Really, no Firefly? I probably like most of the Star Trek shows/movies better out of the two but now days I would answer Babylon 5 or The Expanse. If we are talking SciFi in general the options could evolve to anything by Douglas Adams or anything in the Dune universe or countless others. There is way more out there then just what Lucas or Rodenberry did.
Every day is a different challenge, there isn’t really a normal routine as it’s a dynamic fast paced environment.
Tune back into the blog soon for more in our Get to Know Green House Data series!
