Every couple of weeks, we're introducing you to another member of the Green House Data team. Like getting to meet Santa's elves, this blog series brings you closer to the magic that keeps your cloud services, backups, and colocated equipment running smoothly 24/7. This week, we talk with Managed Services Senior Administrator Wing Chan.
I work in Bellingham. I was born and raised in Hong Kong, and I lived a few years in the States while I attended high school and college before I returned home. I moved to Bellingham because my wife is originally from Vancouver, B.C. and Bellingham seems to be the closest city that I could find between the two countries.
When I am not traveling to Canada on my days off, I like to go to parks and beaches in Bellingham. Our data center at Bellingham’s waterfront is actually quite a beautiful place. You can take a walk on the dock and enjoy the sea view along with different sizes of yachts and boats.
I have been in the IT industry for 11 years. Started out as a computer operator with a telecom company, then moved to help desk support for a small office, and now supporting data center and hosted services. There is always something new to learn!
IT to me is about learning and problem solving. You get to see all kinds of things going on constantly, and I get to keep researching, learning, and trying. Never a dull moment! That’s what keeps IT interesting.
My favorite projects generally involve upgrades and replacements (both hardware and software). Who wouldn’t want to have newer and faster tools to get their work done? It also feels great when you see the product you support is running smoothly.
There are times that IT projects can get boring and require manual work, such as migrations that need to be done manually and validating information. You just to take into consideration that it’s part of the job.
I enjoy cooking when I have free time. Sometimes I make a good amount of dumplings and spring rolls and then freeze them. They make a good meal when I ran out of ideas of what to eat.
Tea. Chinese Teas are my favorites.
Neither… I am not really into watching TV.
The reason I like working for Green House Data is that the staff is very supportive of each other. There are also many talented professionals in the company which makes it great place to work.
