Andrew Long, Global Support Center Team Lead for Green House Data

We return to our ongoing series introducing you to the great team that makes your IT infrastructure sing. This week, meet Andrew Long, Global Service Center Team Lead. As a GSC Lead, Andrew makes sure the front lines are ready to quickly respond to your support inquiries.

Which office do you work in? Are you originally from the area?

I work out of the Cheyenne headquarters. I grew up in central Colorado and moved to Denver after I graduated high school, and then to Cheyenne in 2007.

What are your favorite things to do in Cheyenne?

I try to support the local music community by going to shows at the local record store. Paramount Café makes some pretty good coffee, and Lyons Park is a good place to just wander aimlessly.

How long have you been in the technology industry?

About 18 months, though I did some basic tech support at my previous job helping customers troubleshoot our “digital e-reader devices.”

How did you first get interested in IT?

Somewhere around the tail end of the Apple IIe computers life.

What are some of your favorite work projects? Least favorite?

I really enjoy trying to solve Linux issues, since I’m still relatively new to it. Server audits on the other hand...*shudder*

What do you like to do in your free time?

Playing guitar is my biggest passion. Collecting records is also a favorite hobby. My fiancée and I are planning on doing some camping in the area as well as in Colorado.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee. Black, and enough to give a horse heart palpitations. Usually until around 1PM when I switch to iced tea to take the edge off.

Star Wars or Star Trek?

Star Wars about 98% of the time. I’ve been hooked on the original trilogy, books, and the video games since I was about 10. I have been known to binge watch Star Trek: The Next Generation for days at a time though.

What do you like about working at Green House Data?

I’ve been exposed to something new almost every day since I started here. There’s a lot of software and concepts that I didn’t know existed until I came on board, and adapting to it has been a fun challenge.
