Get to Know Green House Data: Joe Kozlowicz

Welcome back to Get to Know Green House Data, our bimonthly series that introduces you to the team behind the data centers. This week, we head down to Denver to talk to Joe Kozlowicz, the Content and Community Engagement Manager on our marketing team, who describes the ideal compromise between donuts and bacon, his favorite activities in the Mile High City, and why he enjoys marketing for Green House Data.

Which office do you work in? Are you originally from the area?

I work in the downtown Denver office and live a couple miles north of it. I’m originally from Chicagoland, specifically the northwest suburbs.

What brought you to Denver?

I followed my girl out here after I graduated, although I was very close to attending CU Boulder back in 2008.

What are your favorite things to do in Denver?

I love heading out on afternoons and exploring by bicycle, or riding out from the city into the mountains and gravel roads outside its borders. An ideal weekend might involve catching a band coming through town, sitting at the bar at a new restaurant and sampling too much food, and heading to the park for some Frisbee and sunshine. It would definitely involve hitting a brewery or three.

How long have you been in marketing?

I’ve been at it for around five years now, since moving here in 2011.

What are some of your favorite work projects? Least favorite?

I really enjoy working on the visual side of the brand – PDF layouts or anything physical like tradeshow booths. Getting to do projects that are a bit different like videos is also fun. And I have to say writing as well, just because it’s what comes most naturally to me.

Least favorite is probably anything involving reporting. Gleaning insights from stats is useful and it can be kind of enjoyable, but only in a masochistic way. I’m also not a big fan of production work like assembling packages for direct mail, but it’s a necessary evil.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Ride, ride, ride. My wife would probably say she’s my second wife after my bike. I pretend to race cyclocross in the fall, which is a hybrid road/mountain sport that takes place on 1 – 2 mile dirt and grass courses complete with barriers and obstacles.

I also enjoy indie cinema, reading, hiking, camping, eating out, cooking, and boardgames. All accompanied (well, maybe not the films) by some solid tunes on shuffle.

Three days at a resort with spa treatments, or three days camping in a secluded spot in the mountains?

I’m gonna go with camping for surrreeeeeeeee. Good luck finding a secluded spot on the Front Range these days, though.

Donuts or bacon?

The obvious answer is to put bacon on top of your donut, preferably a maple long john.

Doctor Who or Firefly?

Tough one! The classic British vs. American conundrum. I’ll give it to Dr. Who for the wonderful variation and longevity, although I’m a few seasons behind.

What do you like about working at Green House Data?

I love the open-door policy of management and general flexibility around the office. Unlimited vacation is a nice perk for sure. Just need to stay on top of your work! I also dig having a small marketing department, as we all get to be involved in many different aspects of the business.
