Kyle Prawel, Infrastructure & IT Services Consultant for Green House Data

Welcome back to Get to Know Green House Data, where we take a peek into the minds of your support staff, consultants, and all the other team members that organize, promote, maintain, and configure our data centers.

This week, Infrastructure & IT Services Consultant Kyle Prawel dishes on Wyoming vs. Colorado, whether purple donut filling is a fruit, and works in a Thoreau reference.

Which office do you work in? Are you originally from the area?

Cheyenne and Denver, residing in Fort Collins. I'm originally from Loveland, Colorado – Greenies* 4 life!

*Greenies is a term Wyomingites use as a nickname for Coloradans. It has been around since the 70's and stems from the old (all green) Colorado license plates.

What are your favorite things to do in Wyoming?

Wyoming is a great place for adventure— it’s one of the only remaining frontiers in the United States and it reminds me of the Colorado from my childhood. I appreciate uncluttered open spaces, places to get away and ‘live deliberately’ as Thoreau would say.

It’s funny, as a native, a favorite past-time for Coloradoans has been to make fun of Wyoming—I've been doing it most of my life! I’ve been happy to learn over the past few years that it seems to also be a favorite past-time for Wyomingites to make fun of Colorado. So, it’s been great to connect with team members on a mutual hobby, even if the subjects are different!

How long have you been in sales?

Most of my career has actually been wearing a ‘tech-hat’, but over the past 6 years I found that my love for finding IT solutions for customers is akin to solution selling… and I've been doing it ever since.

What are some of your favorite work projects? Least favorite?

Projects that involve solving problems requiring creativity, helping a customer move past the status quo and improve for the future. My least favorite are projects involving commoditized products with commoditized services, at commoditized pricing for commoditized thinking.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Photography, wandering in the mountains, mad-science with tech, exploring Fort Collins, playing M:TG, landscaping, and falling asleep to TNG.

[Editor's note - you can see some of Kyle's photography on our blog about the art of our Cheyenne data center.]

Three days at a resort with spa treatments, or three days camping in a secluded spot in the mountains?

Mountains – sitting around in a spa reminds me that I’m getting fat.

Donuts or bagels?

Bagels. Or donuts, if filled with purple, because purple’s a fruit.

What do you like about working at Green House Data?

Making customers into fans. Proving myself a partner instead of a vendor.  Raising the bar on traditional solutions.  Co-workers with grit. Proving that ‘green’ and ‘profitable’ are not mutually exclusive.
