Mike Wittenberger, DC Ops Specialist for Green House Data

Welcome back to Get to Know Green House Data, in which we introduce members of the teams who run your wires, update your cloud, take care of your billing, and hash out new products.

This week, we go to Seattle to talk to Data Center Operations Specialist Mike Wittenberger, who recently spearheaded the implementation of cold aisle containment in our Westin Building facility. Mike explains his globetrotting upbringing and spills the beans on some of his favorite spots in Seattle.

Which office do you work in? Are you originally from the area?

Seattle, Washington.
Originally I was born in Okinawa, and traveled all over the world, but have always called Yarrow Point, Washington home, due to my grandparents and parents living here, and living here almost every summer.

What are your favorite things to do in Seattle?

Walking through Pike place Market, smelling all of the aroma’s (flowers, fresh seafood, bread, pastries, etc.). Sitting in one of my favorite restaurants (Athenian) overlooking the view in the sound. Exploring and finding new restaurants and dining places.

How long have you been in the technology industry?

Since 1987.

How did you first get interested in IT?

Age 12, with my first Atari video game console. I took the family television and game console apart to integrate the two, got into trouble from my parents, and had to put everything back together. They were surprised when everything worked after I put it all back.

What are some of your favorite work projects? Least favorite?

Creation or re-engineering an item to make it work better. Documentation is my least favorite.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Fishing, golf, frisbee golf, sailing, hiking, and riding my bicycle.

It’s the zombie apocalypse. You get to choose one weapon, one vehicle, one sidekick, and one home base. GO!

Samurai sword, Land Rover Defender, a german shepard as a side kick, and an island as homebase.

Playstation or Xbox?

Playstation.

What do you like about working at Green House Data?

The challenges, team work, and being part of the best.
